This is a stunning wall hanging, hand-embroidered in central/southern Mexico. It's hard to pick a favorite part, but did you see the parent birds feeding their babies in the nest? The tree cavity being inhabited by bees? The ants and butterflies? Peacocks? A resplendent quetzal? This beautifully hand-crafted textile would be a great acquisition for a birder, a nature lover, and/or a collector of museum-quality folk-art or textile art.
More details:
* Approx 38" wide x 40" high (note: these pieces are not perfectly rectangular. The embroidery process pinches the fabric in, creating a slight hourglass shape... i.e. the piece is a bit more narrow halfway down)
*Embroidered on all-cotton muslin
*Can be hand-washed with mild detergent. Colors will not run.
I've been buying quality Mexican Folk Art directly from artisans since 1997, and it's one of those rare occupations where everybody wins: The family who embroidered this particular piece is putting their daughter through college (this is a family first!) - and they are able to do so because they get top dollar for their work. I thrive on finding these treasures and working collectively with the artisans (shared chiles rellenos & trips to Mexico are a nice bonus). And hopefully, this piece will bring lots of pleasure to whoever buys it and everyone else who gets to enjoy it.
